Hungarian Open: Schmiedlova recovers to defeat Avanesyan and reach last four
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova beat Elina Avanesyan 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday afternoon and will play Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the next round
Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova won against Russian Elina Avanesyan 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the Hungarian Open at Római Tennis Academy.
Schmiedlova, ranked No 79, will play Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.
Ahead of her victory, the Slovak defeated Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (3-6, 6-4, 6-0) and Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 4 seed (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Avanesyan, ranked No 75, beat Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 5 seed (7-6 (5), 6-4) and Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament.
