Hungarian Open: Podoroska moves into semi-finals, faces lucky loser Timofeeva next
Nadia Podoroska won against Elina Avanesyan 6-1, 6-3 on Friday and will face Russian lucky loser Maria Timofeeva in the next round
Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 9 seed, advanced to the last four of the Hungarian Open by beating Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, 6-1, 6-3 at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Friday.
Podoroska, ranked No 80, will face Russian lucky loser Maria Timofeeva next.
The Argentinian won against Australian Storm Hunter (1-6, 6-1, 6-1) and qualifier Anna Siskova (6-3, 6-0) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament, Avanesyan, ranked No 69, defeated Slovak Rebecca Sramkova (2-6, 6-4, 6-3) and Hungarian Anna Bondar (6-3, 6-0).
