Hungarian Open: Lys through to semi-finals
Eva Lys edged out Rebecca Sramkova 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) on Friday evening and will play Russian Diana Shnaider, the top seed, in the next round
German Eva Lys moved into the last four of the Hungarian Open by edging out Slovak Rebecca Sramkova 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest.
Lys, ranked No 129, will play Russian Diana Shnaider, the top seed, next.
The 22-year-old German defeated Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-0) and American Bernarda Pera (7-6 (6), 4-1 ret.) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Sramkova, ranked No 109, edged out Romanian qualifier Miriam Bulgaru (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) and won against Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 3 seed (7-6 (4), 6-3).
