Hungarian Open: Lys reaches quarter-finals as Pera retires

German Eva Lys advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hungarian Open when American Bernarda Pera retired on Thursday night at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest.
Lys, ranked No 129, led 7-6 (6), 4-1 when Pera, ranked No 82, pulled out at the Római Tennis Academy.
The 22-year-old German will face the winner of the match between Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 3 seed, and Slovak Rebecca Sramkova next.
In the previous round of the Budapest tournament, Eva Lys won against Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-0).
The American beat German Tamara Korpatsch (7-5, 2-6, 6-2) in the previous round of the Budapest tournament.
