Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl won against American Claire Liu 7-5, 7-6 (3) to advance to the final of the Hungarian Open at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Saturday afternoon.
Baindl, ranked No 100, will play Russian lucky loser Maria Timofeeva next.
In the previous rounds of the Budapest tournament, the Ukrainian beat Hungarian wildcard Natalia Szabanin (6-4, 7-5), Hungarian wildcard Amarissa Toth (6-3, 6-1) and Hungarian wildcard Fanny Stollar (7-6 (5), 6-3).
Liu, ranked No 88, defeated qualifier Louisa Chirico (6-4, 6-4), Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 4 seed (6-3, 7-6 (8)) and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 8 seed (7-5, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
