Russian Elina Avanesyan reached the second round of the Hungarian Open by beating Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 5 seed, 7-6 (5), 6-4 at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Monday night.
Avanesyan, ranked No 75, will play Spaniard Rebeka Masarova next.
