Hungarian Grand Prix: Pera into last four

Bernarda Pera defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-4, 6-3 on Friday afternoon. She’ll face the winner of the match between Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 9 seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan, the second seed, in the next round

American qualifier Bernarda Pera won against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last four of the Hungarian Grand Prix at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest on Friday.

Pera, ranked No 130, will face the winner of the match between Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 9 seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan, the second seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the American beat Spanish lucky loser Marina Bassols Ribera (6-2, 7-5) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-2).

Cocciaretto, ranked No 118, won against Hungarian wildcard Reka-Luca Jani (7-6 (7), 6-2) and edged out Czech Katerina Siniakova (7-5, 4-6, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
