Hong Kong: Boulter advances to semi-finals, faces Yue next
The second seeded Brit defeated Anastasia Zakharova 6-4, 6-0 in Friday’s quarter-finals
Second seed Katie Boulter moved into the last four of the Hong Kong Open by beating Russian Anastasia Zakharova 6-4, 6-0 at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay on Friday.
This was her 30th win on the WTA Tour this year, 21 of which have come on hardcourts. The two-time WTA titlist in 2024 is now through to her fourth semi-final of the season.
Boulter, ranked No 29, will face Chinese Yuan Yue, the No 6 seed, next.
The Brit won against Japanese Aoi Ito (6-4, 6-4) and Chinese Xiyu Wang (7-6 (7), 6-4) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Zakharova, ranked No 113, defeated lucky loser Su Jeong Jang (7-5, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-1).
