Hong Kong Open: Birrell beats Bogdan in first round

Australian Kimberly Birrell won against Romanian Ana Bogdan 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Hong Kong Open at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay on Tuesday.

Birrell, ranked No 115, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 3 seed, and Heather Watson next.
