Australian Ajla Tomljanovic advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong 125 Open by defeating Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday.
Tomljanovic, ranked No 107, will face the winner of the match between Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew and American McCartney Kessler, the No 5 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Australian won against Canadian Marina Stakusic (6-4, 5-7, 6-0).
Ruse, ranked No 93, won against Chinese Qiang Wang (6-0, 6-4) in the previous round.
