Dane Clara Tauson, the No 6 seed, edged out American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the last eight of the Hong Kong 125 Open on Thursday.
Tauson, ranked No 72, will face Japanese Nao Hibino next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Dane won against Italian Martina Trevisan (6-3, 7-5).
Lepchenko, ranked No 165, edged out Linda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous round.
