Hobart International: Avanesyan books spot in last four
Elina Avanesyan benefited from the forfeit of Amanda Anisimova on Thursday and will face the winner of the match between Dayana Yastremska and next
Armenian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, advanced to the last four of the Hobart International after American Amanda Anisimova, the No 3 seed, withdrew before the match on Thursday night at the Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre.
Avanesyan, ranked No 44, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the top seed, and American McCartney Kessler next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Armenian won against Chinese qualifier Xiyu Wang (6-3, 7-5) and Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen (6-2, 6-2).
Anisimova, ranked No 36, defeated Australian wildcard Daria Saville (6-3, 6-3) and Hungarian qualifier Anna Bondar (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Hobart tournament.
