Hamburg Open: Niemeier knocks out Putintseva to reach quarter-finals
Jule Niemeier won against Yulia Putintseva 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 and will play Australian qualifier Daria Saville in the next round
German wildcard Jule Niemeier reached the quarter-finals of the Hamburg Open by winning against Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 at Am Rothenbaum.
Niemeier, ranked No 106, will face Australian qualifier Daria Saville next.
In the previous round of the Hamburg tournament, the German defeated wildcard Ella Seidel (7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-3).
Putintseva, ranked No 58, won against French qualifier Elsa Jacquemot (6-2, 6-4) in the 32 of the Hamburg tournament.
