Hamburg Open: top seed Kontaveit in semi-finals after Petkovic’s retirement

Estonian Anett Kontaveit, the top seed, reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open when German Andrea Petkovic, the No 8 seed, retired on Thursday at Am Rothenbaum in Hambourg.
Kontaveit, ranked No 2, led 6-0, 2-0 when Petkovic, ranked No 67, pulled out at Am Rothenbaum in Hambourg on Thursday.
The Estonian will play Russian Anastasia Potapova next.
Ahead of her victory, Anett Kontaveit defeated Romanian Irina Bara (6-3, 7-6 (3)) and Swede Rebecca Peterson (6-3, 6-2).
The 34-year-old German won against Tamara Korpatsch (6-3, 6-3) and Japanese Misaki Doi (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
