No. 7 seed Eva Lys was victorious against Ella Seidel (6-2, 3-6, 6-2), her compatriot, to advance to the last 8 of the Hamburg European Open on Wednesday afternoon.
Lys, ranked No. 112 in the world, will face Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No. 4 seed of the tournament, in the quarter-finals.
In the previous round, Eva Lys had a less stressful time on court, and defeated wildcard Julia Middendorf in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). Seidel, ranked No. 137 in the world, beat Russian Ekaterina Makarova (6-1, 6-1) during the round of 32, but could not overcome the huge hurdle of Lys.
