Ella Seidel was defeated by fellow German Eva Lys (6-2, 3-6, 6-2), the No. 7 seed at the Hamburg European Open on Wednesday.
Having won her previous match in an overwhelming manner vs Russian Ekaterina Makarova (6-1, 6-1), Seidel could not replicate the victorious outcome vs the higher ranked German.
Lys, ranked No 112, will face Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 4 seed, next in the quarter-finals, in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
