Hamburg European Open: Bondar into last four
Anna Bondar benefited from a retirement from Eva Lys (6-0) on Thursday afternoon in Hamburg. She’ll play Serb Olga Danilovic in the next round

Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 4 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Hamburg European Open when German Eva Lys, the No 7 seed, retired on Thursday. Bondar, ranked No 94 in the world, led 6-0 when Lys, ranked No 112, pulled out on Thursday afternoon.
The Hungarian will play Serb Olga Danilovic on Friday.
In the previous two rounds, Anna Bondar won against German qualifier Anna Petkovic (6-1, 6-3) and Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl (7-6 (5), 6-3).
The 22-year-old German beat wildcard Julia Middendorf (6-3, 6-1) and Ella Seidel (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
