Guangzhou: Danilovic books spot semi-final, faces Siniakova next
The Serb defeated Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals on Friday
Serbia’s Olga Danilovic advanced to the last four of the Guangzhou Open by winning against Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-4 at the Nansha International Tennis Center on Friday.
This is the first time that Danilovic, ranked No 86, is through to the semi-finals of a WTA Tour event on hardcourts. She will face top seed Katerina Siniakova next.
Ahead of her win today, the Serb defeated Russian Erika Andreeva (6-4, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-0).
Sawangkaew, ranked No 163, won against German lucky loser Ella Seidel (6-1, 2-6, 6-2) and Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 3 seed (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
