Sakkari finishes off Bouzkova to set up final against Pegula in Guadalajara
The Greek wasted no time in finishing off her opponent in a match that was held overnight, after the first set, because of rain
Greek Maria Sakkari completed a 7-5, 6-4 win over Czech Marie Bouzkova on Sunday as she booked a place in the final of the Guadalajara Open at the Centro Panamericano de Tenis.
In a match held over at one set to love to Sakkari overnight, the world No 6 raced ahead 4-1 and though Bouzkova hit back to 5-4, the Greek held on to set up a final against American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed.
Ahead of her victory, the Greek beat Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (6-4, 6-4), American Danielle Collins, the No 14 seed (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed (6-1, 5-7, 6-4).
Bouzkova, ranked No 38, defeated Tereza Martincova (6-2, 7-5), Colombian Camila Osorio (6-3, 6-1), Russian Liudmila Samsonova (0-6, 7-5, 6-3) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya (5-2 ret.) in the previous rounds.
