WTA Guadalajara: Mertens wins sixth consecutive match to reach second round
Elise Mertens beat Asia Muhammad 6-3, 6-2 on Monday. She’ll face the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 9 seed, in the next round

Belgium’s Elise Mertens defeated American qualifier Asia Muhammad 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round of the Guadalajara Open at the Centro Panamericano de Tenis on Monday.
This was the sixth win in a row for the Belgian, who won the Jasmin Open in Tunisia last weekend.
Mertens, ranked No 34, will play the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the No 9 seed, next.
The Czech woman is also on a winning streak – having won her last two events in Tallinn and Ostrava.
