Martina Trevisan won against No 15 seed Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-1 to reach the last 16 of the Guadalajara Open Akron on Monday evening.
Trevisan, ranked No 54, will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the top seed, and American Alycia Parks next.
Ahead of her victory, Martina Trevisan beat Dutch qualifier Demi Schuurs (6-2, 6-0).
Paolini, ranked No 35, won against American Louisa Chirico (6-0, 7-6 (3)) in the previous round.
