Guadalajara Open Akron: Sakkari wins biggest career title, defeating Dolehide in straights
Maria Sakkari won the final on Sunday night against Caroline Dolehide.
Greek Maria Sakkari, the second seed, won the Guadalajara Open Akron final by beating American Caroline Dolehide 7-5, 6-3 on Sunday night.
Sakkari, ranked No 9, defeated Australian Storm Hunter (6-2, 6-4), Italian Camila Giorgi (6-2, 6-2), Colombian Emiliana Arango (6-3, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed (6-3, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Dolehide, ranked No 111, defeated Peyton Stearns (6-7 (1), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2)), lucky loser Sachia Vickery (6-3, 4-6, 6-1), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 8 seed (6-1, 6-2), Italian Martina Trevisan (3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-3) and Sofia Kenin (7-5, 6-3).
