Canadian Leylah Fernandez moved into the last 8 of the Guadalajara Open Akron by beating American Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 on Wednesday night.
Fernandez, ranked No 74, will play American Sofia Kenin next.
Fernandez, whose previous two WTA titles came on Mexican soil, needed just 67 minutes to dispatch the American, saving the only break point she faced.
Ahead of her victory, the 21-year-old Canadian won against American qualifier Asia Muhammad (6-1, 6-3) and Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 13 seed (6-3, 6-4).
Navarro, ranked No 49, won against qualifier Maria Mateas (6-0, 6-4) and No 4 seed Madison Keys (6-2, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds.
