Guadalajara Open Akron: Azarenka dominates Kudermetova to reach quarters

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 10 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open Akron by winning against Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 7 seed, 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday night.
Azarenka entered the evening with an 0-2 lifetime record against the 19th-ranked Russian but was in control from start to finish on Wednesday as she was all over Kudermetova’s serve, earning five breaks and winning 35 of 63 return points overall.
Azarenka, ranked No 23, will play Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 3 seed, next.
The 34-year-old Belarusian is into the quarter-finals at Guadalajara for the second consecutive year, and she reaches her 25th WTA 1000 quarter-final. Azarenka defeated American Robin Montgomery (6-1, 6-1) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (6-4, 7-6 (5)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Kudermetova, ranked No 19, edged out Canadian wildcard Eugenie Bouchard (6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-4).
