Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 4 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Grand Est Open by winning against German Eva Lys 6-4, 6-4 at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville on Friday.
Rus, ranked No 86, will play the winner of the match between French wildcard Fiona Ferro and Spaniard Cristina Bucsa, the second seed, next.
The Dutchwoman beat American qualifier Elvina Kalieva (6-1, 6-3) and edged out Russian Erika Andreeva (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Contréxeville tournament, Lys, ranked No 159, edged out Russian Maria Timofeeva (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) and won against Frenchwoman Clara Burel, the No 7 seed (2-6, 6-1, 6-3).
