Grand Est Open: Pavlyuchenkova reaches final after Martincova retires
The Russian will face Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 4 seed, in the final
Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 8 seed, advanced to the final of the Grand Est Open when qualifier Tereza Martincova retired on Saturday at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 119, led 6-2, 1-0 when Martincova, ranked No 115, pulled out on Saturday afternoon at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville.
The Russian will play Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won against French wildcard Amandine Hesse (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7)), Spanish lucky loser Rosa Vicens Mas (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and Italian Sara Errani, the No 3 seed (6-1, 6-0).
Tereza Martincova, beat German Tatjana Maria, the top seed (6-3, 7-6 (2)), American Hailey Baptiste (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and German Anna-Lena Friedsam, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Contréxeville tournament.
