Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 8 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Grand Est Open by beating Spanish lucky loser Rosa Vicens Mas 6-4, 7-6 (4) at Tennis Club de Contrexéville in Contréxeville on Thursday.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 119, will play Italian Sara Errani, the No 3 seed, in the next round.
The Russian edged out French wildcard Amandine Hesse (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7)) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Contréxeville tournament, Vicens Mas, ranked No 206, benefited from the abandonment of Slovenian qualifier Dalila Jakupovic (2-1).
