Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 3 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Grand Est Open 88 when Russian Polina Kudermetova retired on Tuesday.
Sherif, ranked No 78, led 6-2, 1-0 when Kudermetova, ranked No 180, pulled out on Tuesday.
The Egyptian will play American Maria Mateas next.
