Bronzetti edges Sherif in epic to win the Grand Est Open 88

Italian Lucia Bronzetti, the No 4 seed, won the Grand Est Open 88 title by edging out Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-5 on Sunday afternoon.
Bronzetti, ranked No 81, beat Swiss Simona Waltert (6-1, 6-2), Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl (7-5, 5-7, 6-3), Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot, the No 8 seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Chinese lucky loser Xinyu Gao (6-2, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Sherif, ranked No 78, defeated Russian Polina Kudermetova (6-2, 1-0 ret.), American Maria Mateas (6-1, 6-1), Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Frenchwoman Selena Janicijevic (4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4)).
