Chinese qualifier Yafan Wang reached the quarter-finals of the Golden Gate Open at Stanford by defeating German Tamara Korpatsch, the top seed, 6-1, 7-5 on Wednesday night.
Wang, ranked No 158, will play Japanese qualifier Mai Hontama next.
Ahead of her victory, the Chinese won against Ukrainian Daria Snigur (1-6, 6-2, 6-1).
Korpatsch, ranked No 78, beat Belgian Maryna Zanevska (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round.
