Swiatek makes it look easy against Siegemund, wins Warsaw title
Iga Swiatek won her fourth title of the year – on home ground – as she continues her prep for New York
Iga Swiatek won her fourth title of the year in front of 4,000 Polish fans, beating Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 to take the crown in Warsaw.
The crowd chanted her name, celebrating their home champion, who ran immediately to her team, hugging her backroom staff as well as her family. She also grabbed her racquet and passed it back to a fan in the stands as the Warsaw party continued.
After such a wobbly day on Saturday, dropping three match points, this final was a rather different affair. She broke serve five times and did not concede a single break point.
“It’s not easy to play in Warsaw,” admitted Swiatek afterwards, “but I’m so happy that we could manage and did everything we could today after a tiring day yesterday. I wanted to put it all in and just go for it.”

“The legs, they stayed at the hotel today!”, says Siegemund
“I’m sorry I couldn’t put up more of a battle…the legs, they stayed at the hotel today!” joked Siegemund, who had a tough semi-final of her own on Saturday, beating compatriot Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the evening after completing her quarter-final match against Lucrezia Stefanini 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-3 in the morning.
The two had only played each other once before – two years ago in Madrid, on clay, and Swiatek won in straight sets then as well.
This is Swiatek’s eighth title on a hard court, following wins in Adelaide in 2021, San Diego, the US Open, Miami, Indian Wells and Doha in 2022, and Doha earlier this year.
And it was her 45th match win on tour so far in 2023, still the tour-leading mark to beat.
