Gauff goes down to the wire against Burel, scrapes into Indian Wells third round

American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, reached the third round of the Indian Wells by edging out Frenchwoman Clara Burel 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday evening.

Gauff, ranked No 3, will play Italian Lucia Bronzetti next.

Burel, ranked No 47, edged out Chinese Xiyu Wang (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament.
