Garcia splits with coach Perret before WTA Finals kick off
Garcia and Perret had been working together since the start of the year, during which the Frenchwoman has enjoyed one of the best seasons of her career
French tennis player Caroline Garcia, who is enjoying one of the best seasons of her career in 2022, has split from coach Bertrand Perret just days before the start of the season-ending WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas.
Perret posted an update on social media in which he said the pair spent “beautiful and amazing moments together.. an incredible year!!”.
Perret wished 28-year-old Garica ‘the very best on the court and outside’ and signed off his post saying he would find a new challenge now.
Prior to Garcia, the 55-year-old had worked with Ons Jabeur, Renata Zarazua, Shuai Peng and Tatjana Maria.
With Perret, Caroline Garcia reached her first Grand Slam semi-finals and won 3 WTA titles
Garica began the season ranked No 74 in the world and is currently ranked No 6 in the world. This is the second time in her career that Garcia has qualified for the season-ending WTA Finals (after 2017 when she reached the semi-finals). If she manages to hold her ranking, she will finish the year with her highest year-end ranking (her current year-end best ranking is No 8 in 2017).
Dring the season, she reached her first Grand Slam semi-final at the US Open, picked up three singles titles including the Cincinnati Open, and won the Roland-Garros doubles title with countrywoman Kristina Mladenovic.
