Garcia ends Osaka’s run, sets date with Gauff in Miami

Caroline Garcia, the No 23 seed, won against Japanese Naomi Osaka 7-6 (4), 7-5 to reach the last 16 of the Miami Open at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday evening.
This was the third meeting between Garcia and Osaka in 2024, with the Frenchwoman winning in Melbourne earlier this year, and Osaka claiming their most recent match in Doha.
Garcia, ranked No 27, will play American Coco Gauff, the No 3 seed, next.
The Frenchwoman benefited from the abandonment of Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-1, 5-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Osaka, ranked No 229, beat Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-3, 6-4) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 15 seed (6-2, 7-6 (5)).
