Caroline Garcia won the trophy on Saturday against Bianca Andreescu, coming from a set down
Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia won the Bad Homburg Open title by edging out Canadian Bianca Andreescu 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 their first-ever meeting.
It was Garcia’s third title on grass after Mallorca in 2016 and Eastbourne in 2019.
Ahead of her victory, Garcia, ranked No 75, defeated Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (2-6, 6-3, 6-4), Russian qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova (6-3, 6-4), German wildcard Sabine Lisicki (6-3, 7-6 (7)) and No 9 seed Alize Cornet (7-6 (9), 3-6, 7-5).
Andreescu, ranked No 64, beat Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 7 seed (6-3, 6-1), qualifier Katie Swan (6-4, 6-4), Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed (6-4, 6-1) and Romanian Simona Halep, the No 4 seed (W/O) earlier in the tournament.
Despite Andreescu’s defeat, it is still her best career result on grass, having never been past the round of 16 at a tournament previously, as she did in Berlin in 2022, Eastbourne in 2021 and Berlin in 2021.
