Chinese Xiyu Wang moved into the semi-finals of the Galaxy Holding Group Guangzhou Open by winning against Slovak lucky loser Viktoria Hruncakova 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Thursday.
Wang, ranked No 88, will face Belgian Greet Minnen, the No 7 seed, next.
In the previous rounds, the 22-year-old Chinese beat Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (6-3, 6-3) and Russian Diana Shnaider (6-4, 7-5). Hruncakova, ranked No 128, won against Russian Anna Kalinskaya (7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3) and edged out Chinese wildcard Yue Yuan (7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
