Spaniard Leyre Romero Gormaz, the No 5 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Fifth Third Charleston 125 2 by beating Pole Gina Feistel 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday evening.
Romero Gormaz, ranked No 165, will face Italian Nuria Brancaccio next.
In the previous round, the Spaniard won against Canadian Stacey Fung (6-0, 6-1).
Feistel, ranked No 310, defeated American qualifier Alana Smith (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) during the 32.
