Fifth Third Charleston 125 2: Lepchenko reaches last eight after close battle v Makarova
The American survived a close three set match to reach the quarter-finals

American Varvara Lepchenko, the No 3 seed, won against Russian Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Fifth Third Charleston 125 2 on Thursday evening.
Lepchenko, ranked No 141, will play No 7 seed Hanna Chang next.
Ahead of her victory, the 38-year-old American defeated Sophie Chang (6-3, 7-5).
Makarova, ranked No 213, won against Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska (6-0, 6-1) in the previous round.
