Eastbourne International: Martic moves into quarter-finals as Haddad Maia retires in second set

Croat lucky loser Petra Martic moved into the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International when Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 8 seed, retired on Wednesday at Devonshire Park Lawn Club.
Martic, ranked No 30, led 6-4, 3-2 when Haddad Maia, ranked No 13, pulled out at Devonshire Park Lawn Club.
The Croat will face the winner of the match between Chinese qualifier Xiyu Wang and American Madison Keys next.
Petra Martic defeated wildcard Katie Boulter (6-4, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Eastbourne tournament, the Brazilian edged out Czech Marie Bouzkova (3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3)).
