Eastbourne International: Gauff makes semi-finals, knocks out doubles partner Pegula
Coco Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon and will play American Madison Keys in the next round
No 5 seed Coco Gauff advanced to the last four of the Eastbourne International by winning against No 3 seed Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-3 at Devonshire Park Lawn Club on Thursday.
It is Gauff’s first-ever win against a Top Five opponent on grass, and her first win this year against an opponent ranked in the Top 10.
Gauff, ranked No 7, will face American Madison Keys next.
Coco Gauff defeated Bernarda Pera (6-3, 6-2) and lucky loser Jodie Burrage (6-1, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Eastbourne tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Pegula, ranked No 4, won against Chinese Qinwen Zheng (6-3, 6-4) and Colombian qualifier Camila Osorio (6-2, 1-6, 6-3).
