Dubai Open: Svitolina makes last 16

Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 15 seed, beat German Tatjana Maria 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the Dubai Open at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Tuesday.

Svitolina, ranked No 20, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and American Sloane Stephens next.

The Ukrainian won against Anhelina Kalinina (6-3, 7-6 (7)) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Dubai tournament, Maria, ranked No 54, won against Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva (6-2, 6-1).
