German qualifier Eva Lys reached the second round of the Dubai Open by beating Romanian qualifier Irina-Camelia Begu 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Monday.
Lys, ranked No 87, will play No 4 seed Jasmine Paolini next.
