Andreeva sets up Swiatek battle in Dubai Open quarter-finals
Mirra Andreeva beat Peyton Stearns 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday to book her place in the last-eight of the WTA 1000 event
Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 12 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open by winning against American Peyton Stearns 6-1, 6-1 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Wednesday.
Andreeva hit six aces and broke Stearns as many times to finish the match in an hour, 13 minutes.
Andreeva, ranked No 14, will play Pole Iga Swiatek, the second seed, next. This will be her second on-court meeting with Swiatek, who leads the head-to-head 1-0.
Earlier in the tournament, the 17-year-old Russian defeated Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-2, 6-1) and Marketa Vondrousova (7-5, 6-0).
Stearns, ranked No 46, beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur (7-6 (6), 6-4) and edged out Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament.
