Dubai Duty Free Championships: Zheng retires, Samsonova books spot in last 16

Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 14 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Dubai Duty Free Championships after Chinese Qinwen Zheng withdrew before the match at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Tuesday.

Samsonova, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Canadian Leylah Fernandez next.

In the previous round of the Dubai Open, the Russian edged out Spaniard Paula Badosa (6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-4).

Zheng, ranked No 24, beat Shuai Zhang (6-3, 6-1) in the previous round of the Dubai Open.
