Dubai Duty Free Championships: Gauff defeats Keys, sets up Swiatek semi-final
Coco Gauff defeated Madison Keys 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday. She’ll play Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, in the next round
No 5 seed Coco Gauff advanced to the last four of the Dubai Duty Free Championships by winning against Madison Keys 6-2, 7-5 at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Gauff, ranked No 6, will face Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, next.
This is the second time Gauff has reached the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 event, following her achievement at Rome in 2021.
And it was the second time that Gauff had reached the quarter-finals here – having done so on debut two years ago, aged just 16.
Gauff beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-0, 6-4) and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 9 seed (W/O) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Dubai Open, Keys, ranked No 23, defeated Italian qualifier Jasmine Paolini (6-1, 6-1), Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 4 seed (7-5, 6-4) and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 15 seed (6-2, 6-1).
