Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 6 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dow Tennis Classic by edging out American Louisa Chirico 6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-6 (7) on Thursday night.
Marino, ranked No 115, will face Russian Alina Korneeva next.
Ahead of her victory, the 33-year-old Canadian won against American qualifier Robin Anderson (6-4, 7-6 (4)).
Chirico, ranked No 186, beat Canadian Carol Zhao (7-6 (5), 6-2) in the previous round.
