Russian Alina Korneeva won against Gabriela Knutson 7-5, 7-5 to reach the last 8 of the Dow Tennis Classic on Wednesday evening.
Korneeva, ranked No 184, will face the winner of the match between American Louisa Chirico and Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 6 seed, next.
In the previous round, the 17-year-old Russian beat Australian Maya Joint, the No 4 seed (7-5, 7-6 (4)).
Knutson, ranked No 246, edged out Lithuanian Justina Mikulskyte (6-0, 5-7, 7-5) in the previous round.
