San Diego Open: Krejcikova beats Kalinina for first win since Wimbledon
The Czech will play the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 7 seed, and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the next round
Fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova moved into the quarter-finals of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open by beating Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina 6-3, 6-2 on Wednesday.
This was the Czech’s first win on tour since Wimbledon after she went 0-3 during the American summer hardcourt stretch.
Krejcikova, ranked No 13 in the world and a former Roland-Garros champion, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 7 seed, and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk next.
In the previous round, Kalinina, ranked No 28, won against Karolina Pliskova (7-6 (4), 0-6, 6-3) while the Czechwoman received a first-round bye.
