American wildcard Sofia Kenin defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 6 seed, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open on Tuesday.
Kenin, ranked No 93, will play wildcard Katie Volynets next.
