Cluj-Napoca Open: Sasnovich makes semi-finals
Aliaksandra Sasnovich edged out Anhelina Kalinina 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Friday. She’ll play the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Potapova, the top seed, and German qualifier Ella Seidel in the next round
Belarusian lucky loser Aliaksandra Sasnovich edged out Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 4 seed, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to advance to the last four of the Cluj-Napoca Open at the BT Arena on Friday.
Sasnovich, ranked No 128, came from 5-3 down in the third set to claim victory and will face the winner of the match between Russian Anastasia Potapova, the top seed, and German qualifier Ella Seidel next.
The Belarusian edged out Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, the No 6 seed (6-7, 7-5, 6-4) and beat Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic (6-3, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Cluj-Napoca tournament, Kalinina, ranked No 49, won against Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-2, 6-3) and edged out Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens (1-6, 6-4, 6-4).
